“ Last night I went to Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur to have dinner with my sister n niece. Despite the drizzle n the traffic jam , we managed to get a parking space inside Pavilion. By the time we reached Tokyo Street it was about 8.30pm. We wanted Japanese food n so we went to Ichi Zen. It was quite packed with customers dining n the others though seated were still waiting patiently for their food. We studied the menu n placed our order. The food was all freshly prepared. While waiting, we drank cups n cups of green tea. The tea was rather weak n diluted. Then our food came, one after another. All freshly prepared. We ordered one Ebi Ramen with prawns, Volcano Roll, Unagi crispy roll n California Unagi Roll, Tako Yaki , Manhattan Roll n Yaki Gyoza. The rolls were big n we love the Volcano Roll the most . The Manhattan Roll was yummy too. We couldn’t finish our food cos only 3 of us were eating . So we took the balance of the food home . Overall we enjoyed our dinner except that the ramen soup was a bit diluted. ”
“ We’ve been regular customers of Ichi Zen Japanese Restaurant for many years – it’s always been our go-to spot for Japanese food whenever we visit Pavilion. The taste remains consistent and enjoyable, which is why we keep coming back. However, during our most recent visit, we noticed a slight change – the portion sizes have noticeably decreased. Here’s what we ordered: 1⃣ Ebi Tempura (RM25) – Crispy and well-fried as always, but the number and size of prawns were fewer compared to before. 2⃣ Tonkatsu Set Lunch (RM23) – Delicious and satisfying, but the pork cutlet portion was smaller than usual. 3⃣ Salmon Toro Teriyaki (RM27) – Still one of our favourites, but the serving size was quite small this time. The service was still fast and friendly, and the food quality remains good. However, with a bill totaling RM90, the value felt slightly underwhelming this time. To the management: We genuinely love this place and hope it continues to do well. Perhaps consider refreshing the interior a little, as it’s starting to look a bit dated. Also, the menus could use a reprint – some of them have an odd smell and are worn out. We’ll continue supporting the restaurant, and look forward to improvements in the near future! ”
“ The ramen set is such great value for money - only RM29.90 and you get 1 ramen, 1 side dish (like sushi, tempura, etc), and even 1 ice-cream! Portions are generous, and everything is yummy ”
“ We came on a weekday, so there was no long wait. Staff were lovely and friendly, food was delicious and suited our taste perfectly. The portion sizes were quite generous, one serving was more than enough for me! Anyway, highly recommend! ”
“ The food is delicious. Highly recommend the eel. The environment is good. It is just over Tokyo Sheet. A good lunch choice! ”
“ Didn't feel like having something heavy thus chose this slightly 'unique' selection on the menu - Truffle Shirataki (aka Shirataki noodles with truffle sauce and chasu) plus a Mentai Aburi Tamago (additional protein) When the noodles came, I was quite taken aback by the portion cos it looks so little! Chopsticks over the bowl for scale reference. However when I dug into the dish, I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted very good! The truffle sauce was full of flavour and the umami-ness. The creaminess of the sauce was not too overpowering and coated the noodles very well. The truffle taste is definitely there so it was great. The noodles were also cooked well - Shirataki noodles can be chewy or hard if not cooked well. The chasu cubes also tasted great - slightly charred, and have a good chew. One thing I liked was that the chasu cubes were not too 'fat'. Overall, there were probably two or three cubes of fat while the others were a combination of lean and lean/fat. In the end, the portion was just right for me. If it was any larger, I would have felt a bit cloying with the cream/truffle sauce. The Tamago was just Tamago. The portion to me was decent and the eggs were well seasoned and cooked. Not overly sweet like other restaurants and cooked just right so it's still soft and fluffy. Overall, I would come back for the truffle noodles - less guilt since it's Shirataki ”
“ Ichi Zen Pavilion delivers an authentic Japanese dining experience with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu boasts an impressive range of dishes, from fresh sashimi and sushi to hearty ramen and flavorful teppanyaki. A highlight is their creamy mentaiko noodle, served with fresh cabbage, tender meat, and a perfectly cooked onsen egg. The rich, savory sauce is balanced by the light crunch of vegetables, making each bite satisfying. Portions are generous, and presentation is elegant. Service is attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Whether for a casual lunch or a special dinner, Ichi Zen Pavilion is a must-visit for Japanese food lovers. ”
“ I’ve been to Ichi Zen a few times, but this visit was especially satisfying. The sashimi platter (Natsu) was beautifully sliced and fresh — especially loved the scallop and sweet shrimp. The unagi crispy roll was my personal favourite: crunchy on the outside, soft and flavourful inside. Their tonkotsu soup came as a surprise. It is comforting, rich but not greasy, and the pork slices were super tender. I also tried the truffle shirataki, which was light, springy, and had that earthy truffle note without being too strong. Another must-mention: the salmon mini pizza. It's basically crispy gyoza skin topped with a creamy salmon-avocado mix fun and addictive. ”
